Getting There
You can reach Emerald Bay State Park a number of ways: by car, by boat or on foot are the most common.

By car, the Emerald Bay State Park parking lot is right on Highway 89 at Emerald Bay, 22 miles south of Tahoe City.

To reach Vikingsholm, take the trail that starts right off the bay side of the parking lot. The trail is one mile in length and drops 500 feet in elevation to the house. If you require assistance to get to Vikingsholm, or to get back up the steep trail, please call the Sierra District office in advance at (530) 541-3030, and accommodations will be made for you.

By boat, Emerald Bay is on the southwestern shoreline of Lake Tahoe. Speed is regulated inside the bay, please familiarize yourself with the relevant regulations. We encourage you to consider a camping trip at Boat Camp while you're exploring Emerald Bay!

By foot, the Rubicon Trail, which starts at D. L. Bliss State Park and leads to Emerald Bay State Park is one of the most popular hikes in the Lake Tahoe basin. About 5 miles long, you can start the trail at Rubicon Point in D. L. Bliss, or on the shoreline at Vikingsholm, or at the Eagle Point campground, just south of Vikingsholm.
