LAKE TAHOE, APRIL 15, 2025 - What’s your favorite season in Tahoe? Wintertime on the slopes, summertime beach days, or the quiet seasons of spring or fall? Whatever your answer, it’s probably not construction season…
As part of the 2025 First Tuesday Breakfast Club hosted by the North Tahoe Community Alliance, local agency representatives recently presented about Tahoe’s multiple construction projects this summer. Knowing about local construction projects will help your next visit to one of our local state parks be a success.
Tardiness, commute stress, and road closures due to construction traffic are some of the various causes of headaches in Tahoe for residents and visitors. Unfortunately, the harsh Sierra winters, along with freeze-and-thaw cycles, chains, and heavy road usage, necessitate construction to keep our roads usable and pothole-free. To help you plan, be prepared, and ease your travel worries, here are the various construction projects you should know about:
Restriping between I-80 Agricultural Inspection Station to 267/89 interchange, May - June (up to 20 min. delay)
Broadband Network on SR-28 between Tahoe City and Crystal Bay, April - August (one-way traffic up to 30 min. delay)
Pavement Rehabilitation on SR-28 between Tahoe City and the Nevada state line, May - September (one-way traffic up to 30 min. delay)
Broadband Network on SR-89 between Tahoe City and “Y” in South Lake Tahoe, April - November in 2025 and 2026 (one-way traffic up to 30 min. delay)
Fanny Bridge Replacement in Tahoe City, beginning in June and a full 12-week closure beginning August 11 (traffic will shift over to Lake Blvd. bypass to SR-28 and SR-89 to Truckee; transit center will remain open and accessible)
Asphalt Repairs and Grading on SR-28 and US 50 (Cave Rock area), periodic lane closures (up to 10 min. delay)
IVGID Pipeline Project on SR-28 from Sand Harbor to Secret Cove (single lane closure up to 30 min. delay)
